Regional Advisory Committees

Fourteen regional planning areas were established in December 2014 by the Kansas Water Authority in conjunction with the Long-Term Vision for the Future of Water Supply in Kansas.

In August 2015, fourteen Regional Advisory Committees were established. Goals for these 14 regions were then set by the Regional Goal Leadership Teams based upon public input. In 2016, committee members for the RACs were approved and those committee members created action plans in response to those goals. In September–October 2016, all regional action plans were presented to the KWA and approved. These Regional Goal Action Plans were updated by the respective RACs from 2020 through the first part of 2021 and can be found in Appendix A of the 2022 Kansas Water Plan.

The Kansas Water Office formulates a comprehensive state water plan for the management, conservation and development of the water resources of the state. The Kansas Water Plan includes sections corresponding with water planning areas which are determined by the Kansas Water Office (K.S.A. 82a-903). Water planning is achieved by addressing issues in the regional areas of the state.

Get Involved

Regional Advisory Committees advise the KWO and KWA on local water-related issues, serve as a link to the public and water management entities. RAC members act as the eyes and ears for the KWO and KWA in their local community, as well as ambassadors of public input. Members of RACs serve as a vital voice for their communities.
