Education Resources

The Kansas Water Office collaborates with a number of organizations that provide useful water education resources for teachers, including lesson plans and activities, teacher materials, grant and scholarship information and professional development opportunities.  KWO also works with organizations that run their own youth education and outreach programs available to schools.  Below is a list of organizations with helpful links for Kansas educators.

Friends of the Kaw provides information on educational paddle trips, river cleanups and virtual events and educational videos about the Kansas River.  You can also find maps of the Kansas River watershed.

The Great Plains Nature Center provides information on field trip and outreach programs, summer programs, virtual programs and family events.  You can also find access to pocket guides, at-home resources for continued learning, and a list of links to Wichita educational sites and other Kansas environmental sites to visit.

The Kansas Association of Conservation Districts provides lessons and activities, videos, and educational tools. You can also find information about Envirothon, conservation contests, youth field events and student scholarship opportunities.

The Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education provides information on their Kansas Green Schools program, virtual events, and professional development courses for educators.

Kansas Corn STEM provides lesson plans and activities (including homeschool resources), and teaching materials.  You can also fill out request forms for events, professional development opportunities, and a mini grant for teachers.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture – Division of Conservation provides links to resources for educators and students, including lesson plans and activities.

The Kansas Farm Bureau provides lesson plans and activities as well as information on youth organizations, scholarship opportunities, and grants for educators.

The Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom provides lessons and activities, videos, posters, as well as grant and scholarship information.

The Kansas Geological Survey provides activity guides, maps, professional education resources and a High Plains Aquifer Interactive Atlas.  KGS also has a YouTube channel.

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center provides field trip and outreach information and exhibit information, family events, children’s programs, educator workshops, and a virtual tour of the center.

WaterOne is a water utility located in the Johnson County area and provides activities and videos (under KidZone). You can also find information on community events, river cleanups, and other programming here.
